Professional training

Train in Psychodramatic Bodywork®

Three levels, taken in order. Each level builds on the one before, from emotional first aid to deep cathartic release facilitation.

Great attention is paid to the creation of a safe group, and the intersecting dimensions of race, ethnicity and gender are explored in this context. Each workshop combines didactic presentations with experiential learning, and experienced facilitators assist in the small-group work.

1

Introductory

3 full days · open to everyone

Focuses on anger, sadness and fear: understanding, witnessing and experiencing their release.

  • Facilitated opportunities to release each emotion safely.
  • Witnessing the full range of each emotion, from barely expressed to fully released.
  • Learning where the body holds each emotion when it is “unexpressed.”
  • Learning and practicing guidelines for Safe Touch, and growing comfortable with it.
  • Experiencing emotional release and bodywork within the structure of a psychodrama.
  • Learning and practicing the 6 aspects of closure theory.
2

Intermediate

3 full days · after Introductory

  • The 3 styles of blocking anger, sadness and fear.
  • The meridians in the body that relate to each blocking style.
  • How blocking styles relate to life traumas and the healing process.
  • Four basic headache patterns and how to work with them.
  • Basic psychodrama skills: role playing, interviewing in roles, role reversal and doubling.

Combined option: the Intermediate is often offered together with the Introductory as a single five-day workshop, so you can complete both levels at once. Ask the trainer when you register. In California, register for the Intermediate with The Action Institute ↗.

3

Advanced

4 units of 5 days · over two years or more

The Advanced training is where the methods of the first two levels are practiced and integrated. Using our own personal issues and blocks, we learn experientially to enhance our clinical work. Trusting our intuition is its foundation, and students develop a heightened awareness of their own intuitive abilities.

When students release bodily pain, grounded spirituality often emerges spontaneously. Connecting to the spiritual realm is encouraged and supported at this level.

Ongoing therapy

Required. The training works with the body, where trauma is stored, so ongoing therapy provides the container for the deep transformational work. Each participant is responsible for the care of their own “wounded self.”

Practicum

Assist for 25 days at Introductory and Intermediate workshops. Up to 10 of these days may be substituted with shiatsu or psychodrama training.

Susan Aaron also runs 11 Advanced/Graduate groups in various locations. Email Susan if you’re interested.

How to register

Contact the trainer leading the workshop

Each workshop is registered with the trainer who leads it. For workshops in California, register through The Action Institute. For Toronto and anything else, contact Susan.

Deep personal healing does occur because these are experiential workshops, but they are not therapy groups. Participants will need significant support during and after the workshop to complete and integrate what was begun.

Before you apply: applicants are required to have therapeutic resources available to them as a condition of participation.
